Selection of Candidates

The American University of Athens seeks a student body that represents diverse backgrounds. Each year students from the U.S., Greece and approximately 38 other countries enroll at AUA. In addition to their high school records, recommendations and placement test scores, the candidates' special abilities and interests are also given careful consideration in the evaluation process.

Applications

Students are encouraged to file an application approximately sixty (60) days prior to the beginning of the semester of enrollment to ensure adequate time for all necessary records to be received and evaluated. The application must be accompanied by the 100 application fee (which covers a part of the processing expense and is not refundable). Applications may be obtained from the Admissions Office, Kifisias & Sohou 4, Neo Psichiko, Athens 115 25, Greece. For further information call (+30) 210-7259301-2-3.
The processing of this completed form by the Office of Admissions will immediately designate the student as a final applicant to the University. Subsequently,a copy of secondary school credentials must also be filled with the office of admissions.The personal statement and recommendation letters are important but non compulsory.
The evaluation of an applicant's credentials begins as soon as all of the application materials have been received.

The application form can be either downloaded in Acrobat format or obtained from the Office of Admissions. The processing of the completed form by our Office will immediately designate the student as a final applicant to the University. International students should also complete this form (in rtf format).

 

Interviews

The application procedure ends with an interview that each candidate is required to have, during which personal qualifications including character and breadth of interests are evaluated.

Admission of Transfer Students

Incoming transfer students have their credits and coursework evaluated by AUA administration cooperating with the respective Chairperson of the department offering the program to which they have been accepted. Undergraduate transfer students are encouraged to file and application at least sixty (60) days prior to the beginning of the semester of enrollment to ensure adequate time for all necessary records to be received and evaluated. Each applicant must arrange for official transcripts of all previous University records to be sent directly to University. Current bulletins of all the institutions previously attended may be requested. Additional material may be required for a particular program of study.

In figuring total expenses one must add special fees, personal expenses, textbooks, supplies or other charges which may be incurred.

TUITION DISCOUNT

A 10% discount is offered when the respective semester’s, or year’s, tuition is paid in full. The American University of Athens can also arrange a loan for the student to finance his/her tuition fees.

It is traditional for Greek private schools of all levels to grant discounts to relatives. For members of the immediate family, AUA’s policy is either to grant a 5% discount to each brother and sister or 10% to one.

PART-TIME STUDENTS

Enrolled for 2 to 11 semester credit hours per semester (with AUA administration approval).
Tuition: € 365 per semester credit hour.
Tuition must be paid in Euros by all students.

Administration fee: €75 (retained by AUA in case of a refund)
Graduation fee: An amount to be paid each time an "Application for Degree" is filed. (An additional amount is charged for participation in graduation exercises which is optional.)
Transcript fee: €9 for unofficial copies of transcripts and €15 for official ones. (Students are not charged for the first three official transcripts.)


DEFERRED PAYMENT PLAN

Registered full-time students (12 semester credit hours or more) may apply to the Office of Student Accounts for AUA’s deferred payment plan. If approved, a finance charge of €90 per academic semester will be added to the tuition fees. A deferred payment plan approval is valid for one academic semester only. A new application should be submitted by the specified deadline date and will not be processed if all previous tuition payment obligations have not been made on time.
